A 51-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with a late night stabbing in Cospicua in which a 30-year-old was seriously injured.
The police believe the two men, both of Cospicua, were involved in an argument at a residence and a fight broke out.
The younger man was stabbed. He was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and found to be in a grievous condition.
The incident took place at Triq l-Inkurunazzjoni at about midnight on Monday and a third man was present.
In a separate incident, a man was found critically injured in a field in Qrendi late on Monday night. Sources said he had crashed his car and ended up in the field. His condition stabilised later.
The 54-year-old man, from Qrendi, was admitted to hospital at around 1am yesterday. He had been found in the field, bordering Triq il-Biżantini, by two women, who are his relatives.
Earlier that evening, the three of them were together at a bar but the man left early, according to sources.
The women were walking by the field when they spotted someone lying on the ground and called for help. The man appeared to have been drunk, the sources said.
Although the police are not excluding any line of investigation, it is not believed there was any foul play involved.
Duty magistrate Carol Peralta opened separate inquiries for the two incidents and appointed court experts to help in the investigations.
