A 48-year-old man from Żejtun was crushed to death yesterday when a number of precast concrete slabs collapsed at a farm still under construction in Bulebel, limits of Żejtun.

The incident happened in Tarxien Road at around 9.30am, when one of the walls suddenly gave way under the weight of the concrete slabs.

At the time six construction workers were on site.

Civil protection personnel were called to the scene but unfortunately but the victim, Charles Fenech, died on the spot.

His younger brother Raymond Fenech, 41, also from Żejtun, was taken to hospital by an ambulance after suffering serious injuries.

A magisterial inquiry is under way.
