I would like to thank Alfred Conti Borda for his highly interesting feature and excellent research on my father Salvo’s life at sea and especially his wartime experiences (The Sunday Times, May 27).

Officer cadets either join or are commissioned- Roger Baldacchino, San Pawl tat-Tarġa

However, I wish to correct a few inadvertent inaccuracies.

The reference to HMS Kelly, which was attacked by two Junker 88s and was hit by two bombs during a passage with HMS Coventry on June 1, 1940, should have been to HMS Calcutta.

The second sentence in the penultimate paragraph should have read: “The Reunion Association secretary and the indefatigable Rocky Wilkins, BEM, kept the survivors active by organising meetings and outings and events pertaining to Kelly. Salvo’s son Roger, to whom I am very grateful for helping me write this article, recently informed me that according to Mountbatten’s daughter only nine survivors are still alive.”

Incidentally, officer cadets either join or are commissioned and not enrolled in both the Royal Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman.
