The third round of the Campionato Siciliano di Velocita takes place at the Autodromo Valle dei Templi this weekend and, as is to be expected, Team Malta will again be present and challenging for the honours.

Johann Spiteri was the Maltese flag-bearer in the first round in March.

On that occasion, he drove his Jedi Suzuki to an excellent class win in the highly-competitive 1000cc Formula race, after putting the car on pole in qualifying.

Just one month later, Adam Bugeja claimed the honours in round two of the championship with an excellent 1300 class win and fourth in the large capacity Formula race.

Bugeja and his team had a busy weekend trying to set up the OMS Kawasaki, following a complete rebuild, but after qualifying seventh on the grid, he drove an excellent 12-lap race, making up positions as he got used to the car and the circuit, to finish a creditable fourth.

This weekend, it will be Spiteri’s turn to race his Jedi Suzuki again in the 1000cc race.

It seems that the Italians were not impressed with his convincing win in March. So, they will be all out to rectify the situation in their favour.

Spiteri’s main challenge is again expected to come from young Filippo Costa who has been improving from race to race inside his Gloria Yamaha.

Qualifying will be held tomorrow afternoon, with all the 12-lap races for the various groups taking place on Sunday.
