Thanks to the support provided by the Maltese Olympic Committee, four local players recently had the opportunity to travel to Ireland and take part in an international tournament, the Irish Future Series.

This event took place at the Baldoyle Badminton Centre, in Dublin. Led by coach Norman Spiteri, the Maltese players tested their mettle in several categories.

Stefan Salomone, Samuel Cali and Stephen Ferrante competed in the singles while Fiorella Marie Sadowski took part in the women’s event. Additionally, Salomone and Sadowski teamed up in mixed doubles while Cali and Ferrante played in doubles.

The players had been preparing for this event for quite some time.

Training sessions comprised both technical and tactical aspects in-tended to ensure that the players would be at their best in court.

In the light of the encouraging results obtained, Badminton Malta is now planning another foray into Irish territory, this time the players will be facing opposition at the Irish Open 2012.

This event will feature the traditional singles and doubles categories and will be played at the Baldoyle centre in early December.

While stating its satisfaction at the positive outcome of the first Irish venture, Badminton Malta expressed its gratitude to the Maltese Olympic Committee for their cooperation in the implementation of this project.
