It was with great pleasure that I read the article on the Emerging Artists Series (The Sunday Times, July 1) about young artists launching their careers in music-making – daunting, to say the least!

I congratulate the young couple Jean Noël Attard and Joanne Camilleri not only for their inclusion of my husband Charles Camilleri’s short work but for their wholesome attitude that as performers “we have a duty to include works from our own Maltese heritage”.

We are a Mediterranean nation and whenever Maltese musicians are asked to perform in a foreign country they should project Maltese culture.

When performing abroad, Maltese musicians, when interviewed should also mention not only their school but also their own mentor, such as Bisazza, Vella, Miggiani as Joanne and Jean Noël have very ably informed us. We wish them the best of luck.
