It seems to have become fashionable to romanticise about the rule of the Knights, ignore the changes the French made during their short stay with us, and belittle the consequences of 150 years of British occupation.

There are two histories to tell: The history of Malta, which is well recorded, and the history of the Maltese, all 57 varieties, to which each one of us belongs. The second history has yet to be written.
