Huzzah for Martin Scicluna’s excellent piece in Times of Malta on January 8. At long last a Maltese tells it as it really is with regard to the lack of courtesy and discipline of a great number of Maltese drivers on our roads.
I am an Englishman and have lived here for over six years. In 50 years of driving all over the world – Europe, Asia, North and South America and Africa – I have never come across such terrible driving as in Malta. It seriously needs to be addressed.
I have Maltese friends who assure me they are amongst the “best drivers in the world”. One of them, about my age, states he’s only had three “slight accidents” during the past year...! That’s one more than the accidents I was involved in after driving in London, daily, for over 30 years.
I find that a tongue-in-cheek response to the Maltese drivers’ boasts is: “When did Malta ever have a Formula 1 driver?”
Enough said, I believe.
