I recently visited an exhibition of Inuit art at the Canadian High Commission in London. The title was Inuit Ullumi: Inuit Today.

I am puzzled that their “ullumi” (translated as ‘today’ or ‘on this day’) so resembles our “illum”. The Inuit language is one of a group of native North American languages.

Perhaps someone at the Institute of Linguistics at the University of Malta might want to shed some light on this surprising connection with our language. Coincidence?
