Before the traditional rowing event, the Regatta, hundreds of people had the chance to do their bit of rowing in the Maltco Indoor Rowing Event, which was held on September 8 at Il-Ponta, Senglea.

Taking yet another initiative to support and strengthen Maltese athletes, Maltco Lotteries was the main sponsor for this rowing activity, during which participants were split into 10 categories, including under-10s, under-30s, over-55 and a Special Olympic category.

The last challenge towards noon and only minutes before the Regatta was the Team Race, in which teams made up of four employees represented their company rowed their way in a ‘relay’ manner to compete against other companies. The companies participating in this category were Ken Lake Fitness, Freemyme Fitness Club, Go, Vodafone and KMS.

This was part of The European Week of Sport awareness, organised by the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport, aimed to promote sport and physical activity across Europe.

The European Week of Sport’s main aim is to inspire Europeans to #BeActive on a regular basis and to introduce opportunities in peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more.

Each category awarded the top three rowers and teams placing in their respective category.

The medals were presented by Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport Chris Agius, Maltco directors Georgios Kakouras and David Gatt and KMS representative Tanya Zahra.
