Malta is carefully weighing its options on how to support UN initiatives to bring more stability in Libya, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said yesterday.

Dr Muscat was addressing honorary consuls representing foreign governments in Malta, during the exchange of New Year greetings at Castille. He said that recent developments in the North African country were of concern to Malta both from a security and a commercial aspect.

The dean of the honorary consular corps Godwin Bencini called upon the government to give consuls a higher status, arguing that their work was not being sufficiently appreciated.
