The Government has welcomed the findings of the Global Competitiveness Index published by the World Economic Forum in which Malta climbed up four places to rank 47th.

In a statement, the Finance Ministry said this result supported Malta’s efforts to attract more foreign direct investment which was a crucial driver of economic growth and job creation.

It said the report showed that the Government’s investment in education was bearing fruit, with the system classified among the best 20 in the world.

The financial services sector continued to receive important recognition and the report ranked Malta among the most advanced nations for availability of financial services, financing through the local equity market, ease of access to loans and soundness of banks.

The ministry said those interested in doing business should contact Business First, Malta Enterprise’s one-stop-shop, which had already welcomed over 7,000 contacts since January.
