The Intercontinental Malta won two of the five prizes reserved exclusively for Maltese hotels at the European edition of the World Travel Awards.

The five-star property in St Julian’s was named Malta’s Leading Business Hotel and Malta’s Leading Resort at the prestigious awards ceremony held earlier this month in Antalya, Turkey.

Now in its 20th year, the World Travel Awards (Europe) are referred to as the Oscars of the travel industry. They commend the best the continent has to offer, following a voting process involving travel, tourism and hospitality professionals worldwide.

As well as overall winners, each country has its own category with a variety of prizes up for grabs.

Le Méridien St Julian’s Hotel & Spa was named Malta’s Leading Spa Resort.

“On the global scene, the consumer’s voice is being heard more than ever – and rightly so. It is very rewarding for our team to see our permanent efforts being translated into a very positive international reputation,” said Franco Vella, general manager at Le Méridien St Julian’s Hotel & Spa.

The other awards were won by Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa (Malta’s Leading Hotel) and The Xara Palace (Malta’s Leading Boutique Hotel).

Next week we’ll have a feature showcasing why The Xara Palace was named Malta’s Leading Boutique Hotel.

And the winners are...

Malta’s Leading Boutique Hotel – The Xara Palace
Malta’s Leading Business Hotel – Intercontinental Malta
Malta’s Leading Hotel – Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa
Malta’s Leading Resort – Intercontinental Malta
Malta’s Leading Spa Resort – Le Méridien St Julians Hotel & Spa
