Finance Minister Edward Scicluna yesterday told Parliament that Malta was ready to help Greece overcome its financial and economic challenges by sharing its economic experience.

Delivering a ministerial statement, Prof. Scicluna said that it was in everyone’s interest that Greece overcame the challenges it faced to provide a good future to its citizens.

Noting that EU institutions were satisfied with the Greek proposals for a four-month extension of Greece’s existing bailout, Prof. Scicluna said that this extended period should be exploited to rebuild trust between the EU and Greece and between Greece and its creditors.

Prof. Scicluna also spoke of Greece reducing its current financial and economic uncertainty.

Opposition spokesman for finance Mario de Marco said the Opposition backed the government on this issue.

He said that the creditors’ position should not be weakened.

The more realistic Greece’s proposals were, the more it would help to avoid the speculation about a Greek exit from the eurozone, Dr de Marco said.
