Malta’s annual rate of inflation measured in February stood at 1.6 per cent, the highest rate recorded in the EU, according to figures released by Eurostat.

The EU’s annual inflation was 0.8 per cent in February, down from 0.9 per cent in January. A year earlier it was two per cent.

Monthly inflation was 0.3 per cent in February 2014. Only Finland’s rate was as high as Malta’s, with Austria at 1.5 per cent.

Compared with January 2014, annual inflation fell in 17 member states, remained stable in three and rose in seven.

A year earlier, Malta’s annual rate was 1.8 per cent, the National Statistics Office said.
