Five Libyan children aged between four months and five years are receiving treatment at Mater Dei Hospital because the situation prevailing in their country does not allow them access to the specialised care they need.

The children arrived last night on a flight from Benghazi and were met at the airport by Health Minister Joseph Cassar.

Four of them suffer from congenital ailments and the other has bone problems, the government said. It said the children were being treated here as part of the humanitarian aid Malta was offering the Libyan people.

On the same flight was a “senior official” of the National Transitional Council who is here for talks with the government.
