Malta is more popular than Paris for Northern Ireland travellers flying with Easyjet for a romantic Valentine’s Day break.

London was the most popular destination for flights out of Belfast on Valentine’s weekend, leaving Malta in second place.

The top five was completed by Liverpool, Paris and Amsterdam.

Ali Gayward, Easyjet’s head of Northern Ireland, said: “Travel and romance go hand in hand, and it’s interesting to see both London and Malta ranking more popular than the traditional lovers’ choice of Paris.”

Northern Irish Easyjet passengers have the choice of four London airports to fly to, which perhaps explains why it ranked first. “It may surprise some people that Malta is our second most popular Valentine’s destination, but it is an island that oozes romance,” said Ms Gayward.

“Whether you want to relax, enjoy the scenery, admire the history and architecture, or sample the delicious foods al fresco, Malta is an ideal choice and has the bonus of plenty of sunshine.”

Easyjet is operating 23 routes from Belfast this winter, with departures to Malta every Tuesday and Saturday.

Other romantic destinations beaten by Malta include Barcelona, Edinburgh, Geneva and Krakow.
