Malta recently participated in the largest and most important book fair worldwide. With around 7,384 exhibitors from 106 countries, the Frankfurt Book Fair attracts over 3,200 events and approximately 280,194 visitors.

We had one of the most attractive displays generating so much interest

The fair attracts publishers, agents, distributors, printers, booksellers, librarians, book buyers, authors, journalists, rights executives, editors and this year more experts from the film, games and information technology industries.

The Frankfurt Book Fair offers an opportunity to sell translation rights.

Last year Chris Gruppetta, Merlin Publishers Ltd. concluded publishing deals with the US publisher Words Without Borders for the authors Pierre Mejlak, Clare Azzopardi and Trevor Zahra and their works were published in an anthology last May.

Many people visited the Malta stand designed by Pierre Portelli.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Frankfurt Book Fair congratulated the Maltese contingent for the design of the stand and a photo of the stand was published on the website.

Joseph Borg, general manager publishing, Miller Distributors Ltd said: “It really was a proud moment for Malta and for Miller Distributors to be present among so many established publishers from all around the world and that we had one of the most attractive displays generating so much interest. I was impressed with what the small team achieved in putting up such a successful display.”

Mr Gruppetta said: “Maltese publishers exhibiting at the world’s largest book fair is a major milestone in the further professionalisation of our industry. Merlin Publishers is building on the networks and work of previous years in exposing its authors’ books to foreign editors and publishers.”
