The Joint Commission between Malta and Libya started discussing an array of subjects yesterday including areas of potential cooperation such as health, education and oil exploration.

A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said the Libyan delegation for this Commission meeting, the 22nd, was one of the largest to have visited the island.

At the start of the talks, scheduled to last until today, Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella met his counterpart Mohamed Emhemmed Abdul Aziz.

The Libyan Foreign Minister described relations with Malta as “very good and friendly” and said the Libyan government looked forward to extending its cooperation with the island.

He said that in order to be fruitful, these discussions should be selective and concentrate on a few subjects so that the two sides could agree on short and long term plans.

Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella also attended the talks.

The Libyan Foreign Affairs Minister is expected to have further bilateral discussions today with the Ministry for Transport.
