Elegance, poise and beauty...the world’s leading synchronised swimmers gave a breathtaking display of aquatic skills as the 15th FINA World Championships got under way in Barcelona at the weekend.

After the spectacular opening ceremony in Palau Sant Jordi, athletes from five continents took to the water to dazzle spectators with their split-second timing and breath control.

Swimmers, divers, open water swimmers, high divers and water polo players will also compete for glory in the Catalan capital before the championships end in two weeks’ time.

A total of 181 countries are competing in Spain – a record for the FINA event.
