The latest artworks by Sarah Maturin-Baird and Paul Singleton are on show at the exhibition Making Marks at the Ċittadella Cultural Centre in Gozo.

Maturin-Baird is a mixed media artist, who initially trained in London as a textile designer, subsequently moving into painting, sculpture and 3D assemblage.

Her paintings, entitled Songs of the Earth, which she produced especially for this exhibition, are inspired by the fabric of Gozo. The landscape, earth, stone and ancient history are a constant source of interest and are the basis of this exploration into large scale mark- making. Maturin-Baird used acrylic and ink on paper to produce some intuitive, expressive paintings.

Paul Singleton is a woodturner working from Munxar. Each of his pieces is unique, its form dictated by the wood he finds, with nearly all of it salvaged or beachcombed in Gozo, and each one has a protective coating, usually Danish oil and a wax finish.  Pieces that could come into direct contact with food are, however, coated with mineral oil.

Singleton welcomes visitors to his workshop as does Maturin-Baird, who also offers workshops in painting and mixed media.

Making Marks runs until the end of this month at the Cittadella Cultural Centre in Gozo. It is open every day from 9am to 3pm.
