The urban centre at Balzan will be getting a €500,000 makeover that includes paving over the town’s main square.

Co-financed through European regional development funds, the project includes the installation of new bus shelters, the restoration of a statue of Our Lady and the setting up of a heritage trail.

Public Consultation Minister Chris Said and Tourism Minister Mario de Marco inspected the works at Balzan.

Dr Said explained that local councils obtained more than €8 million for about 64 projects. Dr de Marco said the scheme encouraged various localities to invest in their unique characteristics, culture and history.
