A Serbian maid was yesterday charged with stealing cash from her former employer.

Lela Ristic, 46, from San Ġwann, pleaded not guilty to stealing less than €2,300 in cash from her former employer in Swieqi on May 23 and in the previous months.

Defence lawyer Gianluca Caruana Curran requested bail on grounds that she had strong ties to the island as she had been living here for eight years.

Police Inspector Joseph Mercieca objected but said the court should impose sufficient conditions to ensure she attended. Magistrate Charmaine Galea granted her bail against a deposit of €300 and a personal guarantee of €2,000.
