Macedonia reopened its Alexander the Great airport after an 18-month revamp which has made it the second largest airport in southeastern Europe ready to serve four million passengers a year.

“It is a great day for Macedonia when its image is changing” as the airport represents the country when passengers first arrive, Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said.

The airport was modernised after a €110-million investment by the Turkish TAV company which operates the facility.
