Former child star Macaulay Culkin has confirmed the next album his band releases will be their last.

He said the album from his band The Pizza Underground would be their “gift to the world”.

Culkin is best known for his role as Kevin McCallister in the popular 1990s film franchise Home Alone, which sees his character stranded at home by himself over Christmas.

He said: “It’s intense, we have a children’s choir, I hired a 120-piece symphony. It’s the other side of the coin, all of our stuff is like jingly-jangly and this is this big, grand lush sound. Essentially that’s going to be the end of the band and this is our gift to the world – ‘thanks for enjoying our silly pizza band’.”

The band has become synonymous with handing out free pizza to concert-goers.

The 35-year-old is regarded as one of Hollywood’s most successful child actors. Following the success of the first Home Alone film, he went on to star in the 1991 hit My Girl and the 1994 comedy Richie Rich.

His latest project sees him starring on the small screen in the new comparethemarket.com adverts.

He stars alongside meerkat duo Aleksandr and Sergei, taking over from Nicole Kidman who featured in the last campaign.

Talking about why he decided to do the project, he said: “If I get offered something that I think is neat, and if it suits my personality or it suits my humour, then it strikes a chord with me and that’s the reason I said yes to this project. To be honest, I sort of go with the wind, but in a good way.”
