The teachers’ union has declared an industrial dispute with the education authorities because supply teachers have still not been put on an indefinite contract, despite having become eligible two years ago.

The Malta Union of Teachers said it had been asking the Directorate for Corporate Services within the Education Ministry to process these cases for “months on end”. But the requests remained unheeded to the detriment of the members concerned.

The union has given a June 10 ultimatum and reserved the right to issue directives to the employees concerned if the situation remained unresolved.
