Malta University Consulting Ltd is holding an eight-week course in public speaking at the University Residence in Lija from Monday.

The course provides practice in both impromptu and prepared speeches and shows participants how to wake up their audience during presentations.

Speech language pathologist Joseph Agius will lead the training, designed to banish fear of public speaking. Dr Agius, senior principal of the Speech Language Department, lectures at the University of Malta and is a member of the board of studies of the Communication Therapy Division.

He has been a state-appointed family mediator since the inception of the Family Court in 2003 and Civil and Commercial Mediator in 2008. He has special interest in fluency disorders and humour research. The course will end on June 25.

MUC is also holding a 16-hour course in middle management spread over eight weeks at the University Residence in Lija from May 3.

The course is designed to give participants a better understanding of change management, effective team leadership skills, supervisor role, responsibility and authority, team engagement and commitment, and motivational skill sharing.

Human resources and operations management professional Joseph Montebello will lead the course. Mr Montebello is a research fellow with the University’s Centre for Labour Studies and his contribution on industrial relations has been published in the book ‘Managing People in Malta’.
