Last week, two important political talks of particular interest to our MPs were held.
The first (Tuesday) was by the president of the German Parliament, Norbert Lammert on the topic The Role of Parliament in the current financial and debt crisis within the European Union, hosted by the Speaker, Michael Frendo. The second (Saturday 21) was the annual Forum of the President on the subject “Il-Kostituzzjoni ta’ Malta għadha taqdi l-ħtiġijiet tal-poplu?” (Does the Constitution of Malta still meet the people’s needs?) with papers from distinguished persons.
While the former attracted one MP, for the latter three turned up.
Besides the distinguished guests present at the two meetings, a number of former MPs took interest and showed up on both occasions.
I suggest that for future similar meetings the timing should be when kitchens are normally closed.
