The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will today be performing a rock re-imagining of Mozart’s famous last work in what will be its first-ever concert at St Agatha’s Auditorium, Rabat.

Rockquiem, penned by German composer Stefan Wurz and based on Mozart’s Requiem, will be performed by the MPO with a rock band in tow, under the direction of Italian conductor and chorus master Riccardo Bianchi.

The vocal parts will be handled by the MPO chorus and four soloists: soprano Marta Leung, alto Antonella Carpenito, tenor Stefano Marra and bass Giuseppe Zema.

The Requiem was famously left unfinished when Mozart died at the young age of 35, and the fact that he was writing a Mass for the dead at the time helped fuel a number of fanciful legends.

Tickets for Rockquiem may be purchased on showshappening.com or at the door.  A free park-and-ride service will be operating from the Mdina Ditch car park and the Domus Romana (Roman Villa).
