Maltese athletes will be taking part in this year’s 20th edition of the Island Games (COJI) in Mallorca, starting today.

Besides Malta, there will be ten other island teams from the region participating – Azores, Cape Verde, Martinique, Sicily, Sardinia, Jersey, Corsica, Corfu, Guayana and Balearic Islands.

Organisers are expecting 600 athletes, between the ages of 12 and 17, to represent their national teams in a variety of sport this week.

Paul Sultana, chairman of the Youth Commission at the Maltese Olympic Committee, is leading the MOC contingent.

In Mallorca, Malta will be taking part in three sports.

James Vella Vidal and Nicholas Pace Bonello are registered in table tennis competitions; Sana Grillo, Emma Camilleri, Niamh Agius and Leah Barber in artistic gymnastics; and Juliana Debono and Monika Lazarova in rhythmic gymnastics.
