I refer to the article ‘Malta’s MEPs took part in fewest EU votes’ (May 7).

The title of this article is absolutely a misleading and incorrect statement.

I declare that in the year I have been an MEP, I have registered 86.5 per cent attendance and voting sessions (Votewatch). The 13.5 per cent unaccounted for in these statistics are my parliamentary duties on missions outside Strasbourg, on behalf of the European Parliament, held in Nigeria and Ethiopia.

As I attended all parliamentary plenaries and voting sessions held

in Strasbourg, Brussels and during missions on behalf of the EP, my voting participation is 100 per cent.

My attendance is recorded on, and can be verified, by means of the signed attendance sheets – a mandatory requirement of proof of attendance by the European Parliament.

I would therefore like to register my objection to the false and unfair impression which the title of the article and the interpretation of content has given in my regard.
