The Government has accepted the resignation of the chairman of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development, Sonny Portelli.

Government sources said a process of consultation will begin on the appointment of his successor.

Mr Portelli had been MCESD chairman since April 2007 and had been reconfirmed in his post in 2011.

He was previously chairman of telecommunications company GO and AirMalta.

He is among several other people occupying posts on government boards whose offer to resign after the general election, as a matter of procedure, has been accepted.

Last week, Transport Malta’s CEO Stanley Portelli was replaced by the former CEO of the Labour Party, James Piscopo.
