Director General for Consumer Affairs, Josephine Borg, has issued two public statements in accordance with Article 8 of the Consumer Affairs Act (Cap. 378). In the first one, she said that: Mr Jason Galea, holder of ID Card Number 284179M, of Sails and Canvas Ltd, has not honoured the decision delivered by the Consumer Claims Tribunal.

The trader was paid €2,000 to deliver a tent within a specific time frame but, despite being contacted several times by the consumer, he failed to honour his commitment. Moreover, the trader failed to attend tribunal sittings and did not submit a reply to the consumer’s claim.

The tribunal ordered the trader to pay the consumer €2,000 plus the tribunal’s expenses.

The director general issued another public statement in accordance with Article 8 of the Consumer Affairs Act (Cap. 378), in which she said that: Mark Anthony Barbara, holder of ID Card Number 0004675 (M) has not honoured the decision delivered by the Consumer Claims Tribunal.

The trader installed two air-conditioning units, one of which resulted faulty due to inadequate installation. The consumer got an estimate of the costs involved to repair the air conditioner and this amounted to €630.

Mr Barbara failed to contest the consumer’s claims and also failed to appear at any of the tribunal’s sittings. The tribunal ordered Mr Barbara to pay the aforementioned sum of €630 plus the tribunal expenses.
