The second edition of the Malta Communications Authority eBusiness Awards will be held later this year with slight changes to the award categories. The awards acknowledge unique and innovative ideas and initiatives in the use of web-based technologies and e-business solutions for both businesses and society at large.

The first edition was successfully held last November and was well-received by participants and the industry at large as there was a need to locally recognise the work being done to promote the Maltese information and knowledge society.

In particular, these awards aim to recognise web-based technologies which have contributed to social development, improved interaction with clients and administrators or improved competitiveness.

“The e-Business Awards complement the MCA’s efforts to drive the take-up of ICT and promote e-business. By recognising those initiatives which are bringing tangible benefits to the day-to-day operation of organisations, the MCA aims to encourage other businesses or entities to follow suit,” an authority spokesman said.

“These awards offer participants the unique opportunity of showcasing their innovative solutions to the entire business community and the general public. The MCA encourages government entities, private enterprises as well as any other organisations that embrace ICT as part of their operations to submit their application.”

This year’s award categories are: Best e-Government Initiative; Best use of Technology in the Tourism Sector; Best e-Commerce Site (B2C); Best use of Social Media; Best B2B Application; Best Mobile Application (Mobile Phone and Tablet); and Best e-Business Idea of the Year.

The first edition saw 36 submissions and 19 finalists. The winners were IR Services Online, MIM EB-Learn, SMS 4 HEALTH, bowandribbon.com.mt, Property Book, Lufthansa Cargo, and Seasus Limited, with the latter winning the e-Business Excellence Award for overall excellence in the projects submitted for evaluation.

Notifications will be published as soon as the applications for the second edition are open.
