The MADC Clubrooms in Sta Venera are currently a hive of activity as six budding directors and around 32 aspiring actors and actresses are rehearsing for the annual one-act play festival.
This event, introduced in 1979, is now regarded as an essential means of generating and encouraging fresh talent to support the club’s established players.
Over the years, it has had a very positive and far-reaching effect on local theatre, as several of the finest actors, direction and drama teachers have been discovered at the festival.
The festival awards the best production, best actor, best actress, best director and most promising director on the final night.
Six directors are vying for these titles: Maria Somers, James Sultana, David Chricop, Martina Zammit, Luke Farrugia and Vikesh Godhwani, who are tackling a diverse range of genres.
The six plays are each performed over two nights, on Thursday and Saturday, and on Friday and Sunday (see the programme below).
Performances start at 7.30pm except on Sunday, when they start at 7pm.
• Tickets may be obtained by calling 7979 6232 or 7777 6232 between 10am and 6pm or by sending an e-mail to: info@madc.com.mt. They will also be on sale at the MADC Clubrooms in Sta Venera on the nights.
