The police were yesterday ordered to take action against a hairstylist after he lied in court during a civil case involving the dismissal of a former colleague.
The magisterial order came as Christian Mifsud, a former manager with Cut Coiffeur Company Limited, was ordered to pay a total of €5,257 for breach of contract after he left the company.
Mr Mifsud was sued by the owners of Cut Coiffeur, David Bajada and Alex Lapira.
During the case, hairstylist Robert Laviera presented a sworn declaration saying that Mr Mifsud had told clients he was going to open his own business and gave them his mobile number.
Mr Laviera later recanted that version after he left the company and said the opposite when testifying in court, saying that he had been told to testify against Mr Mifsud under threat.
Magistrate Francesco Depasquale noted that the change in testimony amounted to contempt of court and said that the witness could not change his version on a whim.
He ordered the police commissioner to take action against him.
In the judgment, Mr Mifsud was ordered to pay a total of €5,257 for breach of contract by leaving and using confidential information pertaining to the company by contacting customers.
