The Malta FA Referees’ Department has embarked on another referee exchange programme, this time with its counterparts from the Luxembourg federation.

This weekend, referees Clayton Pisani and Alan Mario Sant and assistant referees William Debattista and Paul Apap will control matches from the Division Nationale, the top football league in Luxembourg.

Under the exchange agreement, two top referees and assistant referees from each country are to take charge of matches on alternate days with the main referees also acting as fourth officials.

Today, Pisani will officiate the match between FC Wiltz and UN Kaerjeng. Tomorrow, Sant will referee the Fola Esch-Jeunesse Canach clash.

Debattista and Apap will be the assistant referees in both matches.

The Luxembourg match officials who will be officiating matches from the BOV Premier League this weekend are Laurent Kopriwa, Frank Bourgnon, Claudio de Carolis and Christophe Pires.

Kopriwa will take charge of the Birkirkara-Sliema Wanderers match today while Bourgnon has been assigned the fixture between Mosta and Qormi tomorrow.

Kopriwa, De Carolis and Pires are currently receiving training from Adrian Casha, the MFA director of refereeing, under UEFA’s CORE (Centre of Refereeing Excellence) programme.

The football referees’ exchange programme with Luxembourg follows on similar initiatives already undertaken in previous months as part of a reform in the refereeing sector.
