Applecore Foods and the Institution of Tourism Studies (ITS) recently organised the first edition of the Lurpak Cooking Challenge, which attracted 30 students.

The students competed for five titles: the Best Use of Lurpak Butter prize was won by Elisa Fenech; Best Overall Dish was awarded to Andrea Amore; David Vella won Best Starter award; Best Main Course also went to Andrea Amore; while Best Dessert was won by Stefan Axisa.

Students had to use Lurpak butter in the dishes they prepared. Given a basket of products, marketed locally by Applecore Foods, which included brands such as Arla, Menu and La Rambla, the students concocted their own recipes and were given a commemorative certificate.

Trophies were awarded to winners by three chefs who judged the challenge: Hilton Malta’s executive chef Joe Vella; the Radisson Blu’s former executive chef Rennie Zammit; and ITS chef Steve D’Anastasi.

Trophies were also presented by director of sales at Applecore Foods Antoinette Stellini and ITS chairman Ernest Azzopardi.
