The titular statue of St Andrew, patron saint of Luqa, has been restored and was inaugurated in time for the start of the week-long village feast celebrations.

Publio Magro, who had already done some restoration works on the statue in 1980, was commissioned for the task.

The wooden figure has undergone a number of interventions since it was sculpted by Giuseppe Scolaro of Senglea in 1779.

This last restoration, in fact, marks 100 years since the most important restoration was carried out by artist Abraham Gatt in 1913 and which gave the statue its modern look.
