Incoming Roma coach Luis Enrique has promised fans attacking football next season and said that the results will show the Serie A club was right to hire him.

“No one knows me in Italy but in one year’s time, I will be able to clear any doubts,” the Spaniard said.

“The results will speak for themselves.”

The 41-year-old, who stepped down as coach of the Barcelona B team last week, has yet to be officially unveiled as the Roma boss but the indications are that he will be in position by the end of the week.

He is set to succeed Vincenzo Montella, who replaced Claudio Ranieri on a caretaker basis in February.

Enrique said: “I am delighted and enthusiastic to be joining a winning project. It is, like me, a winner.

“I intend to produce an attacking, spectacular brand of football in the hope that we can bring many people into the stadium.”

He is set to bring former Barca team-mate Ivan De La Pena – who had a spell with the other Rome side Lazio – with him.
