Lufthansa has added five new European destinations to its summer schedule: Mahón in Menorca, Jerez de la Frontera in Spain, Varna in Bulgaria and Cardiff and Glasgow in the UK.

In the long-haul segment, Lufthansa is launching a new service from Munich to Vancouver on the west coast of Canada in addition to the existing connection from Frankfurt.

From May 16, the new route to the largest city in British Columbia will be served daily with an Airbus A330.

Vancouver is a major centre for trade and commerce, as well as a popular tourist and holiday destination.

From July, passengers in Europe will also be able to book and experience the new product and fare concept for Germanwings, which will gradually take over Lufthansa’s point-to-point routes, except Frankfurt and Munich.

Starting April 6, Lufthansa, which is currently operating one daily flight between Frankfurt and Malta, will add a second daily flight on weekends, while its connections will double from August 1 to twice daily departures.

As of August, Lufthansa will also increase its weekly flights between Munich and Malta from three to five.

In the summer timetable, Lufthansa customers will have a choice of flights to 218 Lufthansa destinations in 82 countries, up from 216 destinations in 83 countries the previous summer.

The summer timetable runs from March 31 to October 26.

“This summer we are again offering new flights to fantastic holiday destinations around the Mediterranean and expanding our expertise in the holiday travel segment,” says Jens Bischof, Lufthansa German Airlines board member.

Destinations at a glance

A new service is planned to the Balearic island of Menorca, Mallorca’s smaller sister island. Non-stop flights from Munich, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Berlin will land in Menorca’s capital Mahón.

The Andalusian city of Jerez de la Frontera in the Spanish holiday region of Costa de la Luz will be served this summer from Düsseldorf and Frankfurt.

The Bulgarian resort of Varna on the Black Sea is another new, sun-blessed destination that will be served from Düsseldorf.

Flights to two new British destinations will also depart from Düsseldorf: Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is an ideal starting point for holidays on the coast or in the Welsh mountains. Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, is renowned for its vibrant arts scene as well as for its architecture and design. The spectacular scenery in the Scottish Highlands makes Glasgow a popular destination for discovery tours. This route will be served all year round.
