Lorraine Spiteri has been elected chair of the Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations, following the recent appointment of Renée Laiviera as Commissioner of the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality.

Ms Spiteri was elected during an Extraordinary General Meeting held on Thursday.

She has been an activist in the women’s movement in Malta since 1978. Her main academic background and research are related to women and gender issues with special focus on the labour market and the media.

The other members of the executive council are secretary Lilian Fiedler, Anna Borg, Kate Bonello Sullivan, Mariella Azzopardi and Marceline Naudi.

The MCWO is an umbrella organisation representing 15 local organisations.
