Mario Abela’s latest exhibition, entitled Dislocated Geographies, is open at St James Cavalier, Valletta, until March 25.

Maps – drawn, shredded or alluded to in the form of stark geometric lines – are the linking thread that run through Abela’s works. They are a manifestation of his attempt to find meaning and question the world around him.

Abela’s charcoal and collage creations, evoking waves and outer space, are mostly in large format and include video and sound. They are juxtaposed alongside cut-outs of Charles Darwin and Albert Einstein.

Abela is a Gozitan visual artist and graphic designer based in Malta. He holds a Bachelors degree in education and a Masters in digital arts and is a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta

The Dislocated Geographies exhibition may be viewed at Spaces C1-C4, St James Cavalier, Valletta, until March 25. Admission is free.
