I am researching my family history and perhaps your readers might be able to help.

My great-great-great-grandfather Richard Emmett (1838-1905) served in the British Army and was at one point stationed in Malta. Here he met and married Maria Anna Briffa (1846-1927) on May 22, 1865.

I know about Richard. However, I know very little about the Briffa family, only that Maria’s parents were Giuseppe Briffa and Evangelica (presumably his wife). I have no idea as to even where in Malta they came from.

Up until at least the early 1960s my great-grandmother was still in contact with the Briffa family in Malta and the Briffas even visited the UK in the late 1950s.

Maria lived until 1927, so my grandmother remembered her and her stories were passed down the family.

I am lucky enough to have a photo of one of the Briffa family. Unfortunately I only know that her name was “Sister A. Briffa”. I am attaching the photo in the hope that it might be somehow identifiable. It was most likely taken in the early 1950s.

It would be interesting to find out about the nun in the photograph and the family in general.

I would be extremely grateful for any help or information by emailing antonydavies81@gmail.com.
