In what KRS Film Distributors promises will be one of the best summer cinema line-ups ever, close to 40 films are set to be released over the next 13 weeks.

These run the gamut from comedies to thrillers with a few dramas in between; animated films to sci-fi, and, of course, that summer staple, the action/adventure.

There are a number of titles out there which are potential blockbuster material. Marvel Studios are set to continue their complete dominance over the summer cinematic landscape as they roll out Captain America: The First Avenger.

Pixar continue to flex their animated muscles with Cars 2; a new ‘reboot’ of the Planet of the Apes franchise starts with Rise of the Planet of the Apes; Super 8 is about a group of friends who witness a catastrophic train crash which has terrifying consequences, while almost 30 years after Arnold Schwarzenegger wielded his sword in Conan the Barbarian, Jason Momoa stars in this eagerly-anticipated remake.

Director Michael Bay delivers Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third in the popular franchise, while the high-concept Cowboys and Aliens has action/adventure fans dying of anticipation.

Yet I suspect that anticipation is nothing compared with the massive gaggle of Harry Potter fans chomping at the bit for what promises to be the breathtaking conclusion of the bespectacled young wizard’s epic journey in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

In the comedy stakes, Cameron Diaz looks to set the screen alight in Bad Teacher, in which she plays a rather foul-mouthed junior high school teacher.

Riding a wave of critical acclaim, Bridesmaids looks to be women’s answer to the Hangover films, while men continue to behave a bit badly in Cedar Rapids and The Change-Up, starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman. Bateman will also appear in Horrible Bosses. The In-Betweeners is the big screen adaptation of the British TV comedy.

More comedy is up for grabs in I Don’t Know How She Does It with Sarah Jessica Parker and Pierce Brosnan, while Selena Gomez and Leighton Meeston engage in a bit of mistaken identity as they travel to Monte Carlo.

Everyone’s favourite comedian Jim Carrey is back with Mr Popper’s Penguins about a businessman whose life starts to unravel when he inherits... a huddle of penguins. Zookeeper, starring Kevin James, promises more shenanigans from the animal kingdom.

Romantic comedies also dominate the list. Steve Carell and Julianne Moore deal with a marriage crisis in Crazy Stupid Love, Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake discover what it is like to be Friends with Benefits, while Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess star in One Day.

The genre will in all likelihood be dominated by Larry Crowne, in which superstars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts get together under Hanks’ direction.

For those of a more dramatic bent, The Beaver stars Mel Gibson who, in a case of art imitating life, plays a man whose life has begun to unravel. American history fans will delight in The Conspirator from acclaimed actor-director Robert Redford, in which Robin Wright stars as the only woman charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

The Devil’s Double should attract lots of interest, not least for having partly been shot in Malta.

Rising stars Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender star in a new adaptation of literary classic Jane Eyre, while Emily Watson stars as a social worker who attempts to uncover the truth behind the deportation of young British children to Australia in the 1950s in Oranges and Sunshine.

Cold War spy dramas look set to make a comeback with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, while Warrior is a boxing drama that pits two brothers against one another.

Senna is a docudrama about Brazilian Formula One champion Ayrton Senna, which by all accounts should appeal to racing enthusiasts and non-fans alike.

For the younger ones, Honey 2 promises more dance moves and Spy Kids 4 centres on a retired spy who has to fight a villain bent on stopping time, while The Smurfs, are set to make a comeback.

Horror fans will have more than their fair share of blood and gore with films including Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Final Destination 5, Fright Night, Insidious, Mother’s Day and Shark Night.

It is indeed a list of films guaranteed to cater for all tastes. Needless to say, as 3D increases in popularity, a number of films will be screened in this format.
