I fully agree with the views expressed by both Joe Rizzo and Thomas Zerafa on the poor level of programmes aired daily on our local radio stations, (The Sunday Times of Malta, July 9 and 16).

Almost all the programmes are flooded with very loud pop ‘music’ at all hours, particularly in the morning, with the recitation of the rosary in between, which is done simply to kill time rather than as a sign of devotion.

The overall tedious atmosphere ultimately lies somewhere between a disco and a convent, with blatant intervals of sheer forced inanities and idle empty talk from the respective presenters, thrown in for effect to ineffectively dispel the boredom.  Programmes of real substance are sadly missing on all local radio stations. Classical music and opera, still unappreciated by the average uncultured Maltese person, is almost non-existent.

There are too few programmes which are both instructive and entertaining. Yet, in spite of everything, the routine is monotonously repeated day after day, ad nauseam, without the slightest hint of a change on the horizon.
