For the past years, the Labour Party has been regarded by many as a party solely led by political dinosaurs. I genuinely believe things have changed drastically under Joseph Muscat’s leadership.

We as youths never expect trust by default. We are a generation who is willing to prove itself and gain trust. The current Labour administration is giving the Youth Labour Forum the necessary space to do so. Following the local council election results, it is now evident that Dr Muscat is not using the young to adorn the party but has rather given them space to make their voices heard and to take matters in their own hands. The START campaign, which put forward about 60 youths, was a huge success.

There were a number of newly-elected and reconfirmed mayors who contested these elections on Labour’s ticket through START. Such a campaign is undeniable proof that today’s Labour Party has faith in the young generation and the fresh ideas it harbours.

By opening its doors to youths and anybody willing to work within the party for the benefit of the people, Dr Muscat as Leader of the Opposition is fulfilling the true meaning of politics.

My final message goes to all the young people out there who are sick and tired of an apathetic and indifferent Administration. The young generation represents a fountain of new ideas which, when coupled with know-how and experience, will produce an unstoppable force that will eventually propel the country forward in the right direction.
