Despite the enormous and continous negative campaigning by Lawrence Gonzi and his Mosta MPs and candidates, the Labour Party succeeded, for the second time running, to beat GonziPN by winning the relative majority of first preference votes in Mosta, even if marginally. Due to the transferable vote system, GonziPN ended up getting the majority of council seats.

So I was wondering whether Dr Gonzi, on behlf of GonziPN, would refuse to take over the administration of the Mosta local council, once GonziPN has got a majority of seats but a minority of first preference votes. They would thus prove to the Maltese people that they do practise what they have kept preaching for all these past years – since 1981 to just a few weeks ago – that Labour should not have accepted to govern in 1981, when it won the majority of seats but the PN won the majority of votes in that election!

Hence, I hope that GonziPN will never refer to that 1981 episode as they will be quickly reminded of what is happening today in Mosta.

May I take this opportunity to thank most heartily Joseph Muscat, all PL candidates, MPs and party officials and party activists, for the magnificent job they have done and which resulted in a resounding victory. But particularly at Mosta where the PL has proven that Mosta is no longer a PN bastion. As well as those voters who gave their trust to PL candidates throughout Malta and Gozo.
