Livigno was named Best European Resort at the prestigious World Snow Awards held in London on November 2.
The Italian Alpine resort, popularised in Malta by travel agents YTC, beat off competition from Val d’Isère (France), Courchevel (France), Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Austria), Madonna di Campiglio (Italy), Montafon (Austria) and Soldeu (Andorra).
Among the reasons for awarding the prize to Livigno was the special care given to dedicated areas for off-piste skiing and snowboarding in the resort.
The centrepiece of Ski and Snowboard magazine’s 25th anniversary, and part of the annual Ski and Snowboard Show at Earls Court, London, the awards night was hosted by actor, comedian and keen snowboarder Marcus Brigstocke.
Contenders were judged by an 18-strong panel of ski and snowboard experts, and by public vote.
The World Snow Awards recognise the best resorts, kit, companies and individuals in a total of 28 categories.
