Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish leapt to the defence of striker Luis Suarez yesterday following allegations the Uruguayan racially abused Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s match with Norwich tomorrow, Dalglish said the club was “totally and utterly” behind Suarez, who has strongly denied Evra’s claims.
“The only thing I will say is that the football club and everyone at the football club is totally and utterly fully behind Luis Suarez,” Dalglish told reporters.
“There was an allegation after the game about him diving all over the place and there was an allegation from Patrice Evra. Obviously the two things are emotive but we support our man on both things.”
British press reported yesterday that Evra is likely to face an uphill struggle to prove his allegations against Suarez unless corroborating evidence against the Liverpool striker can be found.
